Yadollah Javani
Yadollah Javani is a Brigadier〔(IRGC denies backing Ahmadinejad, hits out at Reformists, 30 July 2009 by İslâmi Davet )〕 and the head of the political bureau of the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution or Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the powerful and influential branch of Iran's military, founded after the Iranian revolution.〔IISS Military Balance 2006, Routledge for the IISS, London, 2006, p.187〕 Javani has been notable for his firm stand against protests following the 2009 Iranian presidential election, stating in early July 2009 that one Iranians can remain impartial, "there are two currents; those who defend and support the revolution and the establishment, and those who are trying to topple it," and that “we came up against a deep mischief during this election. ... Now the eye of the mischief must be blinded completely and gouged out.”〔(IRGC sees no middle ground in Iran's polity, 5 Jul 2009 )〕 Before the election Javani had stated that a "velvet revolution" would be `quashed before it is born.`〔Iran: The Tragedy and the Future" by Roger Cohen, ''New York Review of Books'', 13 August 2009〕 Javani has attacked opposition leaders, who claimed the election was fraudulent, of causing the unrest as well as killing civilians in the Basij forces. "In this election, for the first time, certain candidates claimed fraud and by causing unrest killed and injured many including 8 members of the Basij."〔(Iran: IRGC Seeks Swift Action Against Election Protesters. 25 August 2009 From Press TV )〕 According to outlookseries.com, the official Iranian IRNA news agency reports that Javani has called for the prosecution of opposition leaders Mir Hossein Moussavi, former President Mohammed Khatami, and defeated presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi, for inciting violence.〔(Top Revolutionary Guard Yadollah Javani Wants Moussavi and Khatami Tried, By Edward Yeranian, 10 August 2009 )〕
